about us
Eejot (इजोत), which in Maithili language means light, is a non profit organization to help students in remote villages of Nepal with education and literacy . We also collaborate with other nonprofit organizations in the healthcare domain to improve basic health. It is run solely by volunteers and through help of potential volunteers like you. Our mission is to improve and facilitate education and improve literacy in remote villages of Nepal. It’s tax exempt organization under section 501(c)(3) of Internal Revenue Code. Here are some of our goals:
- Periodic interaction sessions, technological demonstrations to help motivate students towards studies
- Open both digital and traditional libraries with help of other NGOs and INGOs
- Provide books and educational materials to schools
- Annual contests to bring competitive spirits in children.
Besides financial help, we are always looking for volunteers as well as educational materials such as old laptops, school supplies and educational toys. There is a Sanskrit prayer which in essence summarizes what we as human beings should always aspire to do:
असतोमा सद्गमय
तमसोमा ज्योतिर गमय
मृत्योर्मा अमृतं गमय
ॐ शान्ति शान्ति शांतिः !!
This translated in English is:
Lead me from the unreal to the Real
Lead me from darkness to the Light
Lead me from mortality to Immortality.
Om Peace! Peace Peace !!
We try to do our bits by focusing on “Lead me from darkness to the Light”.
Based on our own experience in Nepal, we have realized that success of a student is not only dependent on financial support but also on good guidance. Providing financial help is one aspect of our effort but it’s also very challenging to raise funds. We believe that while we collect funds, we can in parallel provide guidance and motivate students towards attending schools and sincere studies.
